Power Station at BerkleeNYC Session

In the fall of 2025 I had the pleasure of meeting with and observing the work of Alex Venguer, a three-time Grammy Award-winning sound engineer known for projects such as Barbie and Joker. Alex and I were connected through Clare Manchon after speaking with her over Zoom earlier that year. While observing Alex at the Power Station at BerkleeNYC Studio, I was able to learn the ins and outs of a video and audio session. During this session, Alex recorded sound for family band the McGraw Project. We started by setting up the microphones for each instrument and voice, carefully placing them to get the right sound. When the time came to record, I sat in the booth with Alex and watched him monitor sound levels, direct the musicians, and use EQ to obtain an ideal balance of vocal and instrument. Seeing this different type of process made me gain a better understanding of the versatility of music production and what roles it can play in various scenarios beyond a standard recording session.
